New Doctor Who Books Announced

BBC Books and BBC Children's Books have announced a variety of new Doctor Who books today, all set for release this Autumn. First up is Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia, an updated version of the A-Z guide released in 2007 that now covers the final adventures of the Tenth Doctor and the current escapades of Matt Smith's incarnation, with an exhaustive list of random and important objects, characters and events collated together by former Who Magazine editor Gary Russell. Then there's The Brilliant Book Of Doctor Who 2012, a sequel to the popular 'annual' of sorts released last year to appeal to an older audience, this time looking at both halves of Series Six and giving us a glimpse at future adventures courtersy of the now-beheaded Dorium Maldevar. Both the Encylopedia and Brilliant Book will be out on October 13th at RRPs of £25 and £13.99 respectively. Meanwhile, with the Christmas season nearing by the time Series Six: Part Two has aired, kids will be wanting more doses of Who to while away the hours until the festive one-hour special airing on December 25th. Enter Where's The Doctor, a well-meaning copy and pasted version of Where's Wally now featuring more Daleks, Ood and Timelords, Doctor Who: Postcards from Time and Space (yes, really, and I think you get the gist of what will be in that pack, attractively displayed in the guise of River Song's TARDIS-themed diary) and Doctor Who: Top 100 Scariest Monsters, a new take on some of the Time Lord's deadliest foes that actually looks like a pretty decent read, even if it is quite simplified. A glance at Amazon's preview of 100 Scariest Monsters reveals that the book reveals no details about the final episode of this season, and this may be the case with some of the other 'kids reads' on this list, but hopefully won't be with regards to the Encyclopedia and Brilliant Book. Of course, those just as eager to read some Who fiction can purchase the Official Annual 2012, out today- it never ceases to amaze me that these annuals release nearly half a year before their intended year, and that fans so avidly buy them when they can usually be found for £1-£5 at the start of the next year, but nevertheless it's there! Doctor Who returns later this month.
