So, with just over three weeks left until Doctor Who returns to our screens, how could you get yourself anymore excited (if you're a fan, that is) for Series Six Part Two? Why, by watching this newly released trailer, of course! Quite a lot of the footage has been extracted from the BBC America preview shown at ComicCon, but there is a large focus on the Doctor's supposed demise at the hands of the impossible astronaut, as well as the return of River Song and Madame Kovarian (plus...is that the David Tennant TARDIS exterior when the police box crashes through a window?!?). Before that, though, here's a quick round-up of the second half of the season...
EPISODE EIGHT: LET'S KILL HITLER- On the hunt for Melody Pond, the Doctor encounters Adolf Hitler (pre-WW2) and the most dangerous war criminal in the universe in this exciting opener by Steven Moffat. Apparently, a robot-alien that fixes time meddlings is the monster of the week, and according to Matt (Smith) Alex Kingston gives her best performance yet as River Song.EPISODE NINE: NIGHT TERRORS- A creepy haunted-house style romp featuring dolls coming to life, this one seems to put the Doctor, Amy and Rory in immense danger. It's written by Mark Gatiss, who also did The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern and more recently Victory of the Daleks.
EPISODE TEN: THE GIRL WHO WAITED- Likely to be a big surprise story in much the same way as The Doctor's Wife was, this will (predictably, given the title) focus on Amy Pond's life as a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if Caitlin Blackman (Karen Gillian's cousin) returned to play the young Amy, and in the first trailer for this half we saw an older Amy too, so maybe Tom McRae's got some wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey tricks up his sleeve?
EPISODE ELEVEN: THE GOD COMPLEX- Starring David Walliams, this one takes place in a hotel, where a boy with OCD realises the minatour in his dreams is real, brought to life by a hotel where all nightmares become reality. We've seen the Weeping Angels are coming back- wouldn't it be likely that Amy would be pretty scared of them...?
EPISODE TWELVE: This is a sequel to last year's great comedy romp The Lodger, once again starring James Corden and Daisy Haggard and likely seeing Matt Smith perform some weird old antics to stop the villains, who just so happen to be the Cybermen and classic accomplices the Cybermats! Expect Gareth Roberts' tale to link into the finale in some way, too.
EPISODE THIRTEEN: And of course Steven Moffat will bring us a crazy, intelligence-requiring close to a great season. In the new trailer we see a pyramid with the American flag and the words 'Area 52' etched on it, plus some dinosaurs and previously Winston Churchill, so it wouldn't be far-fetched as these don't match any of the other story descriptions to think that we're in for a wacky fourty five minutes of science fiction come October. How will the Doctor's death be resolved? Some think all the bizarre scenery shown in the trailer could mean an alternate reality, but with any luck Moffat won't do anything too confusing or that reverts the entire season's events like last year!
Doctor Who returns later this month.
