We're currently almost halfway through the year of 2012- doesn't time fly when you're having fun?- and so far the film industry appears to be booming, especially admist a great and successful Summer Of Film blockbuster season. As we head towards the end of what is undoubtedly the biggest event for the industry of the year, after which things inevitably slow down a little, I thought I'd take a chance to reassure you that despite the film slump that's on its way from September onwards (although things do pick up in the Christmas months), the next year of 2013 still has plenty in store to excite us. Here, then, in the form of two articles (you're on Part 1), is your first definitive look at what's to come in the next twelve months of cinema...
JANUARY
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D- Hollywood's most infamous horror flick is back to kick off the year in glorious bloody style. Sadists, here's how you enter 2013.
HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH-HUNTERS- Just as likely a pair up of sub-titles as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Snow White & The Huntsman, this bizarre fairy tale promises to give a totally different glimpse into how Grimm wrote his morals and fables.
SCARY MOVIE 5- It's always great to see a budding parody enter a year's rankings. 2012 hasn't had many parodies, so we're getting the latest Scary Movie now from the makers of Disaster Movie and Meet The Spartans.
MONSTERS' INC 3D- In preparation for the returns of Mike and Sully in the Summer, Disney are re-releasing the classic 2001 animated romp Monsters. Inc in three dimensions. Woop!
MOVIE 43- Perhaps one of the biggest comedy sketch ensembles of recent times, Movie 43 has been a long time in the making. If all goes to plan, we'll see Elizabeth Banks; Chloe Grace Moretz; Emma Stone; Kristian Bell; Gerard Butler; Hugh Jackman; Naomi Watts; Kate Winslet; Christopher Mintz-Please; Stephen Merchant and countless other stars sharing the screen at the opening of next year!
FEBRUARY
A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD- The Bruce Willis franchise that never seems to die (hard) is back; you probably know what to expect from this one.
ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH- DreamWorks' latest animated comedy will see humans attempting to get away from the wreckage of their home as aliens take it over.
I, FRANKENSTEIN- The Dark Knight's Two-Face Aaron Eckhart stars in what promises to be a haunting and emotional fantasy drama resurrecting Mary Shelley's greatest and scariest gothic creation.
MARCH
OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL- Little is known about this one bar that it's a prequel to the famous story of The Wizard Of Oz that features the acting talents of James Franco and Mila Kunis. Be sure to keep your radar on it...
G.I. JOE: RETALIATION- Pushed back from this year's Summer Of Film by eight months, the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is hardly on many 'Most Anticipated' lists, but could be fun spring blockbuster fare nevertheless.
APRIL
OBLIVION- Tom Cruise heads up this dark fantasy drama that's pretty much the only notable release of April. On the plus side, from here on out we enter 2013's Summer Of Film, and boy, is it busy!
MAY
IRON MAN 3- Fresh off the success of Avengers Assemble, Robert Downey Jr's metallic superhero is back for his third solo outing as the Mandarin rises and the influences of the classic Extremis comic-book storyline are felt. Expect a few ties into Avengers Phase Two towards the end, too.
STAR TREK 2- Chris Pine's Kirk is back too for another outing where no man has gone before. Interstellar war beckons, and the USS Enterprise's crew are thrown into disarray as old allegiances threaten to tear them apart before the battle has even commenced. If things go well, this could well be a Film Of The Year contender!
EPIC- Colin Farrell, Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson and Amanda Seyfried will be leading the procession on this creatively-named computer animated fantasy/fairy tale adventure from Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox.
FAST SIX- The Fast & Furious gang are back after 2011's surprise hit reboot-of-sorts Fast Five for more fast-paced action and racing. Yes, you'll know to expect overblown setpieces, but that didn't hamper the last entry much, so don't count this one out just yet!
THE HANGOVER: PART III- Finally, Todd Phillips returns for the concluding instalment of The Hangover trilogy as Alan is taken into a Las Vegas mental asylum and the gang must race to free him. Expect laughs and controversial gags galore...
