What with all the excitement surrounding the Amazing Spider-Man reboot film, it's easy to forget that its producers are hard at work on a spin-off based on the antihero symbiote character Venom. But lo and behold, that movie is coming in the not-too-distant future, and producer Avi Avad has been speaking about what we can expect from the flick...
- ON VENOM'S PREMISE: "It's an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communication, fibers and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make this huge, amazing film about Eddie."
- ON VENOM'S PLACE IN THE FRANCHISE CANON: "What I'm trying to say to you without giving anything away is that hopefully these worlds will live in peace some day. Look for the worlds to make sense with one another."
Don't be surprised if the sequel to this Summer's reboot references or even includes Brock, as it's likely that Arad and the team will want to spend as little time dealing with the Venom origins story as possible to make the spin-off a great standalone piece. The Amazing Spider-Man swings into cinemas on July 3rd, and Venom's proposed release window is 2014.
