What with the success of the recent Super Mario and The Legend Of Zelda twentieth anniversary collections on the Nintendo Wii, it comes as little surprise that Nintendo are in the mood to be a little self-self-congratulatory once again this year with Kirby's two-decade birthday. The games publisher and developer are bringing us a new 20th Anniversary collection later this year, and have confirmed which classic titles will feature on the retail title. Here's the full list with details of each original version, their release consoles and their gameplay:
- Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy, 1992)- A brief side-scroller that made use of the classic password save file system, a great romp for Kirby to debut with.
- Kirby's Adventure (NES, 1993)- The first console incarnation of Kirby. Adventure was essentially an expansion of the Game Boy original, but a brilliant development of gameplay nevertheless.
- Kirby's Dream Land 2 (Game Boy, 1995)- This sequel to the Game Boy classic added new animal friends into the equation. Again, nothing too groundbreaking over Mario here, yet huge fun all the same.
- Kirby's Super Star (SNES, 1996)- Perhaps the greatest entry in the classic franchise. Super Star introduced 'helpers' to allow for multiplayer gameplay, so should work well on the Wii.
- Kirby's Dream Land 3 (SNES, 1997)- Kirby acquired new powers aplenty in this third entry in the Dream Land series. As campaigns go, this was a long and extensive playthrough.
Whilst you're waiting for this bargain of a collection to arrive in stores, why not try out the equally brilliant spin-off Kirby's Epic Yarn, out now? Kirby 20th Anniversary Collection ships here in the UK this Winter.
