I'll cut straight to the chase- below, you'll see a massive round-up of a tonne of big announcements made today about Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Year. Underneath that big list, you'll then see images from the first four episodes of the anniversary season as released today by the BBC and a video of the animated upcoming version of the First Doctor's regeneration for the DVD release of The Tenth Planet. Here we go...
- DWM ON THE BELLS OF ST JOHN- Firstly, today's new 458th edition of Doctor Who Magazine has brought with it an epic preview of the anniversary season's premiere, The Bells Of St John. Here's the official synopsis: "Earth, 2013. A whole world swimming in Wi-Fi. A Wi-Fi soup! Suppose something got inside it. Suppose there was something living in the Wi-Fi, harvesting human minds. Something that loves and cares for humanity so much it can't get enough of it!" The episode will kick off a light story arc that ties together the three versions of Clara, includes plane and motorbike journeys across London and references to the London Rits, the Olympics and tonnes more!
- DWM ON THE ANNIVESARY SEASON- DWM also released the first details on the rest of the anniversary season coming this Spring. Neil Cross' two episodes will be "big, grand and alien" and then involve mysterious ghosts, while Neil Gaiman wants to create an "emotional reaction to the Cybermen", and in the season finale there may be "a certain villain popping up again", but the Moff couldn't possibly tell us who...
- THE ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL BEGINS- On top of all of those anniversary season announcements, DWM then confirmed that the 50th Anniversary Special adventure will commence filming on Monday March 20th. We'll be bringing you all of the big news from the two-month shoot as it progresses, with minor spoilers and exciting rumours ahoy!
- MORE ANNIVERSARY PROJECTS- And as if all of that weren't enough, DWM went on to confirm that The Culture Show is hard at work on a BBC2 documentary on Doctor Who to join the anniversary celebrations this November. This exciting production joins the 50th Anniversary Special and the Mark Gatiss origins biopic An Adventure In Space And Time in what should prove to be the best time yet for a fan, especially with Caroline Skinner calling the special itself "AMBITIOUS" and promising that "It. Will. Be. Big!"
Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Easter Saturday, March 30th with a blockbuster season of anniversary adventures. Check out a whole host of exciting images from the episodes below:
