Jack won't be back in the 50th Anniversary Special...
John Barrowman has today announced that he will not appear in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special adventure later this year. Earlier in March, the Who and Torchwood star who plays Captain Jack Harkness revealed that the BBC had approached him about the anniversary celebrations, but it seems more likely that he may appear at the Doctor Who Celebration Weekend in November instead.
Steven Moffat recently said that "It is important you don't turn [the 50th Anniversary Special] into a fan-fest. We can't make this all about looking backwards. It's actually got to be the start of a new story." Note that the Moff doesn't of course rule out homages to the past, but as speculated, it's perhaps more likely that the 2005-2013 three modern Doctors will be the main stars of the celebratory adventure. Matt teased the word 'paintings' too, so perhaps classic Doctors will have cameos of some kind through this format as well. Nevertheless, with 3D and cinema screenings of the Special already confirmed and the storyline yet to be revealed, you can be sure that it'll be a night to remember!
Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special airs on November 23rd.
