Executive producer Marcus Wilson has this week been chatting to a variety of entertainment news publications about what's to come for Doctor Who over the course of 2013. We'll hear plenty more from Marcus and the rest of the production team in the days ahead, but there's certainly quite a bit of interesting content today. Here's our round-up of Marcus' comments...
- ON CLARA: "She's the impossible girl. The Doctor has met her twice before and both times she died. This time he's determined to keep her alive and to discover who or what she really is. It's a riddle that won't easily be cracked. I defy anybody to guess it. Steven Moffat has found a way to lead everyone down the garden path and then knock them over with surprise at the end."
- ON THE RINGS OF AKHATEN: "There's an alien cast of thousands, more than you've ever seen on screen before, aliens of every stripe, size and colour!"
- ON HIDE: "It has an alien that will live in your nightmares. We spent a lot of time in the edit going, 'Can we show that much? I'm not sure...' It was freaky to be stood next to it on set. Neil Cross has created a real nightmare fantasy there."
- ON THE LAST CYBERMAN: "We wanted to make the Cybermen a bit quieter and faster. They've always had a body horror. Neil Gaiman finds a great way to take that on. We also see inside one of them, in quite an explosive way!"
- ON THE FUNERAL OF RIVER SONG: "The Doctor's greatest secret will make your jaws drop. You thought you knew everything about the Doctor? Well, you never saw this coming..."
- ON THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL: "Steven has written a script that would make James Cameron weep. It's a story that sprawls through space and time. It will be a huge epic."
Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Easter Saturday, March 30th at 6.15pm.
