BBC Worldwide have today announced the publication of Doctor Who: How to be a Time Lord - The Official Guide for release in all good book retailers later this year. Written by various (to-be-announced) scribes, the so-called Guide will be narrated by the now-deceased Eleventh Doctor - as played by Matt Smith on the hit BBC science-fiction drama between 2010 and 2013 - and timed to coincide with the broadcast of Peter Capaldi's first series in the role of the world's most iconic time traveller (barring Doc Brown, of course).
Since it's published by BBC Children's Books, the safe assumption is that How to be a Time Lord is aimed purely at the younger demographic of Whovians (indeed, the précis' simplistic tone and diction furthers this inference considerably), though we're certain that this rather overtly established target audience criterion won't stop older fans (yours truly included) marching out in their legions to their nearest book-store and picking up a copy for themselves. Here's the official synopsis for the hardback fictional reference text: "This official Doctor Who guide is essential reading for all wannabe Time Lords. Written as a gift from the Eleventh Doctor to the newly-regenerated Twelfth, it contains everything you need to know to be just like him. So if you've ever wondered if you'd make the grade in the Time Lord Academy, or how to fly the TARDIS, or the correct way to dip your fish finger in custard, then this is the book for you!"
Doctor Who: How to be a Time Lord - The Official Guide will be published in UK book retailers nationwide on October 2nd. The feature-length first episode of Doctor Who's eighth series, "Deep Breath", is set to transmit on BBC One this August 23rd.
