HBO have this week announced the release of a DVD and Blu-Ray boxset compiling the ten 50-minute episodes which comprise the recently-aired fourth season of their globally acclaimed fantasy drama Game of Thrones. Going by the name Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season, this 4-disc package will additionally feature a variety of bonus content for long-term fans of the series to sink their blood-stained teeth into.
Given that two months have already passed since the broadcast of the (remarkably eventful) final episode of Season Four, it's probably worth first recapping the titles of each of the ten instalments that graced our TV screens over the course of the Spring. In which case, they are as follows: "Two Swords"; "The Lion and the Rose"; "Breaker of Chains"; "Oathkeeper"; "First of His Name"; "The Laws of Gods and Men"; "Mockingbird"; "The Mountain and the Viper"; "The Watchers on the Wall" and "The Children". With that useful recap done and dusted, let's move onto the much-coveted Special Features that await customers in the set itself:
- DVD SPECIAL FEATURES - "Behind the Battle for the Wall" (a 30-minute documentary on Episode 9); "The Fallen: A Roundtable" (a 30-minute vi-doc featuring an analysis of those characters who met their demises in Season Four); "The Politics of Power: A Look Back at Season 3" (a beneficial, if likely dense, catch-up video for series newcomers); "Bastards of Westeros" (a discussion video featuring contributions from George R.R. Martin and the showrunners); "Deleted / Extended Scenes" (two such sequences are included) and Audio Commentaries.
- BLU-RAY SPECIAL FEATURES - "In-Episode Guide" (a nifty tool that allows Thrones fans to learn new facts about each episode whilst watching said instalment); "Histories & Lore" and all of the DVD bonus content listed above.
Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season will be released in DVD and Blu-Ray retailers worldwide on February 17th, 2015. In other words, let the impatient waiting begin!
