Merlin heads to pastures new in the eighth instalment of its final season...
It's becoming increasingly apparent that the writers of Merlin are rapidly upping the ante of its various narrative arcs in its final season, with the upcoming two-parter featuring Morgana's darkest manipulations of Gwen representative of this tonal and scale shift. It'll be something of a relief, then, to see the show take a slightly different tact for its eighth episode of the last run, as our hero ventures out of Camelot alone to face a new magical threat.
Here's the synopsis: "When Merlin agress to help a young Druid boy, he has no choice but to leave Camelot on a dangerous missions, and with the citadel distracted by the visit of the fearsome Sarrum, it seems that no one will notice his absence. But as the sky darkens, so do Merlin's suspicions- is there more to Daegal than meets the eye? And can a man as ruthless as the Sarrum ever really be trusted? Too late, the young warlock realises he's made a terrible mistake..."
Merlin continues this Saturday on BBC1 and runs weekly from now until December 29th.
