GDC: Halo Wars 2 Kinect "Could Work"
Halo Wars was received well by the majority of critics, scoring 8/10 for a great plot, superb visuals and a promising game-play engine that could with time become as refined as genre legends like Dune II and Command & Conquer, but since its release in 2008 we've heard little to no news of a sequel in development, likely because its developer Ensemble Studios was cruelly shut down by Microsoft not long after the release of Wars. The tide just might turn, though, in the future if 343 Industries has anything to say about it. Speaking to CVG, creative director Frank O'Connor (a regular contributor to the Halo universe, having previously worked for Bungie) noted that Ensemble's leap into the real-time strategy genre was "a huge success" and although 343 "isn't working on it right now, there's no will against it". O'Connor even went so far as to say that Halo Wars 2 "could work on Kinect" if the current Halo franchise heads chose to make a sequel. Of course, that this isn't the project the developer is working on right now has to beg the question: what is coming next for the Chief? Rumour has it a high-def remake of original hit Halo: Combat Evolved (released on Xbox in 2001) is on the cards for the series' tenth anniversary this November, but seeing as 343 still haven't revealed anything of the sort and when asked if a HD version was next simply said that fans could play Combat Evolved on a disc right now, we're willing to put our money on an E3 reveal of Halo 4 for release in 2012...
