Doctor Who Books/Prequels Announced
As if last night's Comic Relief episode and Matt Smith's role in BBC drama Christopher & His Kind weren't enough, it's now been confirmed that six novelizations of classic 1960s and 70s episodes of Doctor Who will be re-released with new covers and introductions by popular science fiction authors this Summer. The titles, their televised inspirations and introduction writers are as follows: Doctor Who and the Daleks (The Daleks, Neil Gaiman), Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen (The Abominable Snowmen, Stephen Baxter), Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters (The Silurians, Terrence Dicks), Doctor Who and the Crusaders (The Crusaders, Charlie Higson), Doctor Who and the Cybermen (The Invasion, Gareth Roberts) and Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion (Spearhead From Space, Russell T Davies). Better still, three mini-prequels to Series Six will premiere on the official website of the programme in the coming weeks, one in the next week or so serving as a glimpse of the world of season opener The Impossible Astronaut, and two more in the days between episodes looking at the next story in the first half of the 2011 run. Look out for the first of those mini-episodes (probably not a world apart from the TARDISODES that aired each week before Series Two stories) very soon, and probably a brief teaser for the new series tonight!
