Rumour has it the primary concepts for the next generation of the Xbox console will be revealed either at this year's E3 or the 2012 conference, so while speculation begins to mount as the announcement supposedly gets closer, here are my five tips to Microsoft as to what to do with the Xbox 720:
1. DON'T REVEAL IT- Not ever, of course, just not yet. When the Xbox 360 first debuted, you called it a console that could last an entire decade, and with the introduction of Kinect last Christmas I fully believe that can come to pass. There's no point revealing the next generation of Xbox until you've got the full milage out of Kinect, so make sure to pick some core franchises for the motion camera to become a part of (e.g. Gears; Star Wars and Mass Effect)
2. GIVE IT KINECT COMPATIBILITY- Chances are at some point the 360 technology's limitations will force Kinect to hit a wall, so the new Xbox should be able to push the peripheral to new heights with virtually limitless possibilities. If there are no limitations yet, then Microsoft should push until it finds them!
3. RELEASE IT AT THE SAME TIME AS THE PS4- One of the main shortcomings of the Xbox 360 launch was that it took place so long before the PlayStation 3, and as a result Sony had more chance to find its flaws and make sure they didn't appear in its own console. This time around, don't let that happen.
4. MAKE NEW FRANCHISES...AND KEEP THEM EXCLUSIVE!- Halo has never passed onto a Sony console except by hack, so why the heck did Microsoft let BioWare port Mass Effect to PS3? Admittedly, we've kept Gears and Forza, but the Xbox 720 needs franchises as big as ME to stay exclusive to it and thus provide more reason to own it and not the next PlayStation.
5. DO NOT, AND I REPEAT DO NOT CALL IT THE XBOX 720- Nuff said.
