Spider-Man Musical Gets Première Date
The new Spider-Man musical Turn Off The Dark has faced its fair share of delays, but now it appears we've got a final concrete date for its début on Broadway. Provided all goes to plan, the preview showings are set for May 12th, and the production will go public on June 14th. First, though, writers of the Spidey film franchise are coming in to edit the script (reportedly it isn't very faithful to the comics or the movies yet) and Bono & The Edge are rewriting many of the musical numbers that didn't go well in prior previews of the show. Turn Off The Dark takes place as Peter Parker is just learning to cope with his arachnid powers, only for a mystical god to twist the fate of his superhero persona and everyone around him to shape his true destiny as an inspirational icon for New York- this is one of the elements of the plot that has come under the most criticsm, forcing what is now the sixth delay of the production (originally it was meant to go public on November 2010). If Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark ever comes to the UK or I manage to see it whenever I next head to America (bear in mind that's not a regular trip, though!), you can expect the full review of the Webbed Wonder's first theatrical outing.
