Glee Stars To Depart

Speaking to The Holywood Reporter, executive producer Ryan Murphy has revealed that Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith (who play Rachel, Kurt and Finn) will not return for the fourth season of Glee. Their departure, likely to occur in the Series Three finale, is due to their characters graduating in the current fictional school year, at which point some of the secondary stars and the winner of talent show The Glee Project will take bigger roles on the musical drama. Murphy has said that "more characters are leaving than are staying" with regards to the upcoming series, and that the aforementioned leavers "trust the writing and felt it would be great for them to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top." Even as someone who thought the second season was severly lacking and repetitive and as such is not worried what happens to the programme in the future, I can see in particular the departure of these three stars being a massive blow to the show, and as with the likes of Primeval and Two and a Half Men it remains to be seen how well the show copes without its central protagonists. Glee returns this Autumn on Sky One.
