Fast Girls Review

The fastest, most daring sports drama there is?
Let's be honest, with a film like Fast Girls, you know just about exactly what you're getting. Released no doubt in an attempt to shoehorn some cash out of the Olympics passions fuelling Great Britain even back in June, this fun flick actually channels some of what makes our athleticism so refreshing and unique here in the United Kingdom. The storyline's as predictable as you would expect, yet there's still a good old-fashioned feel of goodwill and speed about the whole endeavour that's missing from so many near-identical sports and dance romps nowadays. Better yet, there's a hugely lovable cast of British stars- from Being Human's Leonara Crichlow to Merlin's Bradley James, from Sherlock's Rupert Graves to Rome's Phil Davis and Doctor Who's Noel Clarke, there'll definitely be someone that Brit fans recognise and love to see in action here, which is refreshing to say the least and makes for a few 'Aha!' moments throughout. Of course, it's by no means abundant in surprises, quite the opposite- some of the dialogue segments and setpieces are so retreaded from sports movie classics that you might as well lip-sync them as they come along, despite the quirkiness and enjoyability of it all. While Fast Girls isn't an exceptional piece, as films go it's well worth a watch for fans of the Games, sports films and indeed the great realms of British stardom.
