The Great Gatsby Delayed

The Leo DeCaprio-starring adaptation of Fitzgerald's classic is pushed back to Summer 2013.
Baz Lurhmann's modern film adaptation of The Great Gatsby was certainly looking like one of the better films of this year, boasting a strong cast including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire. Sadly, though, not all movies can make it out on schedule, and what with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey projected to release at the same time as Gatsby (the film originally set for a December 25th release), it comes as little surprise that the team and Warner Brothers have elected to push its release window back into next year. The official reason for such a delay? "[Gatsby] truly brings this American classic to life in a complete immersive, visually stunning and exciting way," says Warner president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman, "It makes sense to ensure this film reaches the widest audience possible." In other words, the move is mostly for cash, but to be fair it does make sense, and perhaps allows the exciting motion picture more of a chance at the Academy Awards without Life Of Pi and other much-anticipated potential drama hits in 2012 to contend with. The Great Gatsby is now set to release in Summer 2013.
