Who News: New Trailer, Details, Rumours

Three Weeks To Go...
Oh yes, there really are just three weeks (well, probably) to go until Doctor Who returns to our screens for five new blockbuster episodes. We've been waiting since Christmas for a new series, but to satisfy us we've now got a full new trailer for Season Seven of the BBC's hit sci-fi drama. You can catch that epic preview of the next run below. Before that, though, a quick update on some new details and reports we've had on what's to come...

  • THE NINTH DOCTOR CALLS? At a recent Theatre interview, former Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston apparently stated he was "not done" with his past role, claiming there was "more to do with the character". Could this mean Eccleston has been approached about the 50th Anniversary for at least a 'Three Doctors'-style team-up with David Tennant and Matt Smith? It's a very exciting thought to say the least...
  • DETAILS, SEASON DETAILS: In the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith and returnee writer Chris Chibnall have had a few interesting and unique tidbits on Series Seven to share with us. First off, Asylum Of The Daleks is "full on sci-fi" with alien planets, spaceships and Daleks aplenty, including Paradigm Daleks who've "had some work done" on them. Chibnall's Dinosaurs On A Spaceship is apparently "sci-fi with a hint of historical", a futuristic tale where the Earth is on the brink of anarchy as a spaceship comes hurtling towards a planet. Finally, Cubed will look at the idea that if humans are offered free gifts, they'll take them regardless of the possible consequences.
  • CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY: The official Who website confirmed yesterday via a production image that this year's Christmas Special has entered production. Episode Six of the new series, this story will introduce Jenna-Louise Coleman as new companion Clara, but beyond that details of the narrative are scarce.
It's all thrilling news, especially with so little time until the new series arrives (if things don't go fully as expected, then at latest it'll be back on September 1st). Doctor Who returns on August 25th.
