Journey on An Adventure In Time And Space next year!
Mark Gatiss will pen a new drama chronicling the inception of Doctor Who in time for the show's fiftieth anniversary, the BBC have confirmed today. Pitched as a biography-picture, the one-off 90 minute special An Adventure In Time And Space will focus on iconic staplemates of the series such as Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman while depicting the process with which the show was conceived and the early challenges its writers and producers had to overcome. This progrmame will form but one of plenty of celebratory anniversary events next year, with multiple special episodes of Who already planned to lead up to November 23rd, 2013 and more widespread events no doubt taking shape in the minds of the show's current marketing team. "This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original," says writer Gatiss, "And how an actor- William Hartnell- stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary is simply a dream come true." More details on production, casting and broadcast scheduling will be confirmed early next year. An Adventure In Time And Space airs on BBC2 in 2013, while Doctor Who returns for its new run on September 1st.
