Marvel News: Avengers Franchise Future Update

Where will the Avengers universe head next, and who will take it there?
Ever since Avengers Assemble hit cinemas, fans have been desperate to know what is coming up in terms of the ensemble film franchise other than new standalone instalments. Although Marvel's Kevin Feige confirmed with Walt Disney Pictures recently that a sequel to the hit superhero team-up was indeed in the works, beyond that we knew little more. Of course, ComicCon saw the revelation of the 'Phase Two' prequel movies to Avengers 2, which consist of the following: Iron Man 3 (May 2013); Thor: The Dark World (November 2013); Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 2014); Guardians Of The Galaxy (August 2014) and Edgar Wright's Ant-Man (Late 2014 or Early 2015), a big development in terms of the overall franchise, yet this was still hardly the Avengers update people were yearning for. Thankfully, today has brought that exact update. Joss Whedon will return to both write and direct Avengers 2 for a 2015 release, and on top of that, he'll be helming the proposed TV show spin-off to the main series. It's a big news breakthrough to be sure, and one we're likely to get loads more details on soon (hence why we'll now have a more regular 'Marvel News' section for both the films and comics), but for now it's just great to know that one of the year's best movies should get an incredible successor penned by the man who made its success possible. Avengers 2 will likely enter pre-production in early 2014, while the Avengers TV show is currently in the early stages of development.
