And you thought it was bad before...?
I've been covering the UK Games Charts here at On-Screen and now at Non Specific Action for the past few months, and all the while I've mentioned to you and other followers that the industry hits something of a slum here in Great Britain during the quiet Summer period. However, I don't think any of us could have anticipated just how quiet and challenging these times have been for financially-orientated games developers, something shown by last week's games sales. Just 394,868 games were sold in the UK last week, a figure which has been confirmed as the lowest ever amount of sales since the industrial analysts started to record chart rankings over five years ago. That's a monumental fact to note, a real shame considering all of the great titles that shipped in June, with an average tie-in to a brief sports competition instead topping the charts. Here's hoping that things will move in a more positive trend in months to come. For all the latest video gaming and indeed charts-based news, keep checking back at On-Screen in the next few weeks!
