Warner Brothers Pictures have today released a short drama film spin-off to their science-fiction blockbuster Gravity. Titled Aningaaq (below), the miniature flick depicts a moment in the life of one of its source material's supporting characters.
For the purpose of viewer engagement with the piece, I shan't spoil any more regarding what to expect here. Suffice to say that the approach Alfonso Cuaron has taken with this secondary feature is refreshingly innovative, especially given the protagonist's minor role in Gravity. Aningaaq has already been considered for Short Film awards for 2014, and if it does receive nominations, then we'll be in the first ever situation where a film and its spin-off have been nominees for yearly awards in the same annual period...
