New Doctor Who Series 8 Guest Star Announced

Ashes to Ashes' Keeley Hawes signs on to the fifth episode of the science-fiction drama's next run.
The BBC have today announced a new guest star set to feature in the eighth season of their science-fiction drama Doctor Who. Taking place immediately after the events of last year's Christmas Special, The Time of the Doctor, the latest series will star Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald and Samuel Anderson in the recurring role of Coal Hill School teacher Danny Pink.

Our knowledge of Season Eight's list of guest stars so far has been relatively limited, but it's with great excitement that we can reveal that Keeley Hawes will be amongst the supporting cast of its (as of yet untitled) fifth episode. Based on a "strange and puzzling" alien world, the standalone instalment is penned by Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS scribe Stephen Thompson (who was also behind The Sign of Three in the latest run of Sherlock earlier this year) and is directed by Cold War's Douglas McKinnon. Hawes is set to play the central antagonist of the piece, Ms Delphox (a classic sci-fi name if ever there was one), "a powerful out of this world character with a dark secret" who, Steven Moffat says, will aspire to "the greatest villainy yet attempted on Doctor Who [since] she plays a banker"!

Doctor Who returns for its eighth season of intergalactic voyages and alien confrontations this Autumn on BBC One.
