Bricks are laid for the sequel to one of 2014's greatest films so far!
Warner Brothers Pictures have today announced the director of their upcoming animated comedy film The LEGO Movie 2. The sequel to last month's The LEGO Movie was announced just days after the first instalment's launch, although no returning cast members from the original's all-star ensemble (which included but was by no means limited to Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman and Will Artnett) have been confirmed as of yet.
Next up on the franchise's directorial slate will be Chris McKay, who takes the place of co-directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord this time around (both of whom are currently working on projects such as 22 Jump Street at present). McKay served as The LEGO Movie's animation co-director (or its third helm, if you will), making him a worthy choice to serve as the sequel's aesthetic commander-in-chief in his predecessors' absence. Deadline have warned that there's every chance Warner Brothers could focus on a specific LEGO sub-brand rather than the overarching toy franchise in the follow-up, with the Ninjago range apparently being one of those under consideration, yet our hopes remain sky-high that we'll get another overarching effort that satisfies to just as great an extent as February's spellbinding début outing.
The LEGO Movie 2 completes construction in cinemas worldwide on May 26th, 2017.
