As well as unveiling the official ComicCon trailer for the show's fifth season (below), the BBC have today released the plot synopsis for the third episode of Merlin. While it doesn't yet have a title, the new instalment in the fantasy television saga sounds rather exciting, with Anthony Head returning in a guest star role as Uther Pendragon, the former King of Camelot. How does such an influential character and adversary to magic make a return to our living realm? The first hints are here...
"When a stranger gives Arthur the power to summon the dead," the press release says, "The king finds himself torn between head and heart. Unable to resist temptation, he seizes the chance to speak to the person he misses the most- Uther Pendragon. But the spirit world is a dark and dangerous place, for little does Arthur realise his decision comes at a terrible cost. Against all odds, Merlin must put right Arthur's mistake before Camelot, and everything they have built, is destroyed forever." With Mordred posing the main threat of the opening two-parter and Uther's return heading up the third episode, it really does seem as if this series is following a strong and definite arc throughout its run once again! Merlin returns this Saturday, October 6th on BBC1.
