Was there ever any doubt? Find out why Doctor Who has topped the television awards for Q3 2012!
BEST TV SHOW
WINNER: DOCTOR WHO
It was always pretty much a given that Doctor Who would return with a bang after eight months of filming, and that's exactly what the show did with a blockbuster set of five filmic adventures. Asylum Of The Daleks had a Die Hard-esque action rollercoaster feel, Dinosaurs On A Spaceship channelled Jurassic Park while still giving us some likeable new protagonists, A Town Called Mercy was a thought-provoking character drama, The Power Of Three was a great new rendition of an invasion film and of course The Angels Take Manhattan was a beautiful New York-set send-off for two of Who's greatest companions. Although Chris Chibnall's episodes had their minor shortcomings, they were still his best work yet, while Steven Moffat and Toby Whithouse were on consistently top form to take the show straight towards its triumphant 50th Anniversary run in 2013. For a show that's been around for fourty-nine years overall and eight years since its resurrection, Doctor Who is in incredibly strong health, and its lead star Matt Smith has never been better.
BEST TV EPISODE
WINNER: DOCTOR WHO- THE ANGELS TAKE MANHATTAN
I'm not going to go into heavy detail here, as I've already provided a thorough review of The Angels Take Manhattan and handed in further praise in my 'September 2012- Best Release' piece. Sufficed to say, though, that Angels stands as a monument to the heights that Doctor Who can reach in 2012- breathtaking and heartbreaking and so much more all at the same time!
