Q3 2012 Awards: Top 3 Best Games

It's been a quiet quarter for video gaming, but there have been some true greats!
It seems rather fair to say that the video gaming industry hit something of a slum over the Summer months. As such, my normal quarterly 'Top 5 Best Games' list has had to be trimmed down a little to three stunning titles- but what fantastic games they were! Sufficed to say, if you missed out on these three greats, then be ashamed, as they really were the best this quarter of 2012 had to offer for the industry. Here's that list, then...
3. TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON (9/10)- After their disappointing Dark Of The Moon tie-in, it would have been easy to expect another lacklustre Transformers effort from High Moon Studios. Thankfully, though, Fall Of Cybertron was anything but, packing a captivating narrative, strong shooter gameplay and only a weak cliffhanger ending that slightly let it down. Never mind, as Fall remains one of the most memorable titles I've played this year so far.
2. SPEC OPS: THE LINE (9/10)- Military shooters are a penny for a dozen nowadays, so breaking the mould is a tough challenge for any developer. For 2K Games, however, it proved to be pretty darn simple, with the latest Spec Ops franchise instalment marking a major deviation from the norm. The Line came attached to a breathtakingly compelling and thought-provoking storyline, some of the most refined third-person mechanics and empathetic soldier characters in a long time!
1. BORDERLANDS 2 (9/10)- At the top of this list lies one of the most accomplished and breakthrough role-playing sequels of recent times. Gearbox have outdone themselves with Borderlands 2, adding a much-needed sense of humour to the deep storyline and opening up a huge world of immersion and replayability. It's lacking the killer narrative to make it a true, undeniable classic, but the second Borderlands improves on the original in every way and sets an incredible precedent for the RPG genre in the future.
