We've still got a month and three weeks until Doctor Who returns to our screens proper for its annual Christmas Special, but the production and marketing teams are at least keeping us posted on impending proceedings. This week, news on what we'll see from Who at the Children In Need live show and indeed what the future holds for the series has been unveiled at the London Comic Con. Without further ado, then, let's find out what's coming up...
- CHILDREN IN NEED- The BBC have this week confirmed that Doctor Who will once again have a presence at this year's annual Children In Need live show. This time around, there'll be a fully-fledged prequel to the Christmas Special starring both Matt as the Doctor and his new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. On top of that, we'll get an extended trailer for the special, so there's plenty to be excited about for fans!
- EPISODE 7 TEASED- At the Comic Con convention, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith spoke about Steven Moffat's opener, letting us know that we can expect a "great monster" from Jenna-Louise's first regular episode after Episode 6 (the Christmas Special) and promising an absolute classic.
- EPISODE 13 TEASED- Next up, talk moved onto Neil Gaiman's penultimate episode of the seventh season before the Moff's finale. Executive producer Caroline Skinner reckons it's looking stunning so far, with "some old classics" teased as returning to the show. Set rumours imply that the classic Cyber-Men may return to Who this time, so perhaps we should expect Gaiman to provide a new twist on the famous foe?
- THE RETURNS- Matt and Caroline went on to confirm that River Song would return later on in Series Seven (probably the finale), and they also claimed they'd like to see the Ice Warriors and the Yeti back. This seems to imply that they're not back this season as previously rumoured, yet a Series Eight return probably isn't off the cards.
- THE FALL- Asked whether the 'Fall Of The Eleventh' prophecised in The Wedding Of River Song will factor into the end of this season, Matt only went on to say that we can expect plenty more great adventures before that momentous event. My guess? The Moff's saving that big day for the 50th Anniversary, though the 'Fall' doesn't have to be that of the Doctor's life necessarily.
- THE ANNIVERSARY- Finally, although Matt and Caroline couldn't spill the beans on what to expect come the end of 2013 in Doctor Who's anniversary run, they did let us know that "there are big plans, cool and exciting" on their way. Thrilling times!
Children In Need 2012 airs on Friday, November 16th and Doctor Who returns on Christmas Day.
