Tony Stark Will Return...For TWO New Avengers Films!
Marvel Studios have today announced a renewed contract between them and the Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. Downey Jr is famed for playing Tony Stark and his Avenger alter-ego Iron Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. His most recent outing, Iron Man 3, saw Tony eventually destroy his armada of Iron suits and have his metallic sustenance unit removed in order to pursue his relationship with Pepper Pots, while unlikely to leave behind his suits altogether.
The new contract Downey Jr has signed connects him to two new Marvel films. The first we already knew of- The Avengers 2 will take place after the events of Iron Man 3, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season One, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy, introducing the original film's behind-the-scenes antagonist Thanos into an intergalactic war with the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. On top of that, though, we have had it confirmed that The Avengers 3 will also enter production in the future and once again star Downey Jr. That this is only a two-picture deal seems to imply that the third ensemble entry will find a way to write out Stark, but it's nevertheless reassuring to see that the iconic star seems to want to provide his character with a fitting two-part finale.
The Avengers 2 assembles in cinemas worldwide on May 1st, 2015, with The Avengers 3 set to follow on May 5th, 2017.
