Spider-Man Will Return...For A Third AND Fourth Film!
Sony Pictures have today announced the production of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 for release in the near future. The news follows in the wake of filming on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the United States drawing to a close, and marks a confident step forward in Sony's branch of the Marvel film universe.
The third and fourth films in the hit rebooted franchise will focus on Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man as he continues his web-slinging adventures in the Big Apple. We've known for some time now that Sony intended the first three Amazing Spider-Man motion pictures to define our perceptions of Peter Parker's 'untold story' by his investigation of his parents' deaths, but it will be intriguing to see what the future holds in the fourth instalment beyond the initial trilogy.
Meanwhile, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is already looking to be a rather almighty production. The sequel will star Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Sally Field as Aunt May, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Shaliene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Felicity Jones as Felicia Hardy. That's a cracking cast list in itself, so here's hoping that the film doesn't buckle under the weight of its own narrative as Spider-Man 3 did when it nearly killed the franchise in 2007.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit cinemas on May 2nd, 2014, with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 following on June 10th, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 on May 4th, 2018.
