These days, any wise film studio knows to capitalize on the success of each and every element of their popular franchises. Take Universal, who off the back of the hilarious Minion characters performing so well in their Despicable Me franchise, are now developing a completely new spin-off film focused on these manic yellow semi-protagonists.
Titled Minions, the new movie will take place before the original Despicable Me (2010) and star Sandra Bullock in its lead 'human' role. Here's the first plot synopsis: "The Minions are presented with an origins story that showcases their unpredictable personality and physicality! As it turns out, Minions have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they've ever known." It's hardly the most innovative premise ever crafted for a motion picture, but given the inert humour the Minions possess, I sincerely doubt it'll be the narrative which should make this such a hilarious watch.
Minions is set for release in cinemas worldwide on December 19th, 2014.
