2011 Most Anticipated Games #7: Zelda Skyward Sword
What's perhaps most exciting about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Nintendo's latest adventure starring elf-like protagonist Link, is that we know so little about it: from its E3 reveal in 2010 to the new trailer released at this year's show, we can only fathom that Link lives in the cloud town of Skyloft, flies on a bird with Zelda, only for a wind to sweep her to the surface and force our hero to brave dungeons and monsters aplenty to save the day. To be fair, Zelda's stories have never really been the selling point of the games, so it's a very good sign that the gameplay is looking more refined and inventive than ever before judging by the footage we've seen so far. The visual style seems to be a cross between 2005's Twilight Princess (how old does seeing its release date make you feel?) and 1998's Ocarina of Time (how about that?), which isn't too much of a surprise given that this is a prequel to the latter. Don't think of this having a lot to prove when it comes out, but worry for the other games releasing at the same time which will doubtless be taken by surprise when Link and his new Master Sword rush onto the scene and garner brilliant reviews worldwide...The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is set for release this Winter.
