Sony E3: PlayStation Vita Announced

After months of speculation on what the real name of Sony's 'Next Generation Portable' would be, Sony revealed at their E3 conference last night that the new handheld console will be dubbed the 'PlayStation Vita'. This name was recently rumoured, and although it sounds a little strange that was probably the case with the Xbox 360 and the Wii before we became used to saying them. Vita will feature two analogue sticks, touch control, a new disc format and enhanced visuals, plus a brilliant launch line-up of killer PS franchises that includes:
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss, a prequel to Uncharted 3
  • Ruin, a new action brawler and social title
  • Modnation Racers, the sequel to the popular Mario Kart-esque PSP racer
  • Little Big Planet, likely a port of the second game with social features
  • Street Fighter X Tekken, featuring Cole (Infamous) as a fighter
The PS Vita is due for release this Winter at a price of approximately £220 for the Wi-Fi enabled console and £270 for the 3G version. Take a look below for the first footage of Uncharted: Golden Abyss running on the PSV (does that work...?)
