Why You Need To See The Phantom Menace In 3D
Raise your hand if the announcement that the first Star Wars film announced to get a re-release in 3D is The Phantom Menace excited you? Didn't think so, but it seems we'll need to go and see the worst film in the saga next year if we want the much-loved classics to return to the big screen. Speaking to Czech Position, producer Rick McCallum said: "If [the re-releases] don't work, then there will be just one." Reading into this, that means we could essentially never get to see Episodes IV-VI in shiny high-def 3D if The Phantom Menace doesn't sell well enough to convice Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox to continue bringing the movies back to the cinema. It's a harsh reality, yet at least we can endure the pod race, the underwater city chase and pretty much every scene featuring Jar-Jar Binks in the knowledge that the better stuff is on its way because we sat through this frustratingly tedious opener. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 3D will release in February 2012.
