Tomb Raider: Trailer, Release Window Revealed

We'll be seeing a lot of Tomb Raider courtesy of publisher Square Enix next week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, however to keep us going until the game's official unveil in a few days time a brand new trailer for the title has arrived. It is similar in cinematic design to those of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Dead Island, taking a mock-realistic view on the iconic adventurer as her ship hits some hefty turbulence while on a voyage to a mysterious island, leaving Lara Croft stranded and forcing the player to use their survival instincts, collecting food and saving the other members of the crew from a grisly fate. You'd be hard pressed to work out how the gameplay will play out from this video, and yet that probably won't stop it increasing the anticipation of Croft fans everywhere for the promising reboot. The trailer also gives us an indication of when we can expect to see Tomb Raider on shelves, and surprisingly enough it suggests we won't see Lara in action again until Autumn 2012. At least this gives developer Crystal Dynamics more than a year to prepare their next gaming experience, but I can't help but think with games like Gears of War 3, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3 releasing in that gap that this is just trying to escape its possible fate of being swept up by these legendary franchises. No matter what the reason for the delay, I still look forward to seeing Tomb Raider at E3 and eventually playing the reboot next year!
