Doctor Who: Series Seven Confirmed
Doctor Who will return for a seventh season in 2012, the BBC have confirmed. Tweeting today, head of fiction Sam Hodges said: "Doctor Who is returning. Fourteen episodes have been commissioned with Matt Smith as the Doctor", and moments later executive producer Steven Moffat retweeted this post and added: "14 episodes + Matt DEFINITELY. I've got a plan and I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun." Presumably this means River Song (recently revealed to be the half-human, half-Time Lord daughter of Amy Pond and Rory Williams, as if you didn't know!) is involved in Series Seven in some form, but that's speculation on my part. To clarify questions on which episodes these entailed, the official Doctor Who Magazine then said: "Christmas 2011 + 13 further episodes with Matt Smith." Apparently Matt Smith "nearly fell off [his] chair" when Moffat informed him of the title of the Christmas episode earlier this year, so with that and the next season (currently of an unknown format, but judging by the quality of this year's run I want there to be another split!) we're in for yet another year of Who goodness- never underestimate the importance of that, because no one wants another nineteen year hiatus! Doctor Who returns with Let's Kill Hitler this September, but before that you can see Torchwood: Miracle Day (when the whole of Earth becomes immortal- and Jack becomes mortal...) starting its ten episode run in July and The Sarah Jane Adventures will return for its final season this October.
