2013 In Entertainment: TV Preview

Your first look at what's coming to the small screen next year!
Television's scale and ambition is increasing every year, and from this point onwards in 2012 we've got a flurry of big new and exciting shows to come our way before year's end. Nevertheless, it's always equally thrilling to look ahead at what the next year of entertainment holds for us, so that's exactly what I'm doing here with this feature. Without further ado here's our comprehensive roundup of all of the best television programmes that are on their way to your screens in 2013...
DOCTOR WHO- Everyone's favourite sci-fi drama is barrelling towards its epic 50th Anniversary adventures this year, and the celebrations will kick off in full force as we race into the next twelve months. What lies on the Fields Of Trenzalore, how will the Question be solved and just what is the Fall Of The Eleventh? Those dilemmas will be at the forefront of Series Seven Part Two, the anniversary episodes and quite possibly Series Eight Part One as we head into 2013...(Spring, Autumn, Winter)
GLEE- The most reliable US comedy-drama of recent times will undoubtedly return for its fifth season later in 2013, and of course there'll still be the remainder of Series Four to wrap up for the first few months of the year anyway. Expect a heightened focus on Rachel's NYADA events and just whether the relationship between her and Finn can survive such a long distance challenge...(Spring, Autumn, Winter)
LIFE'S TOO SHORT- Warwick Davis returns for a special finale of his one-off comedy series penned by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Don't be surprised to see a great deal of comedy cameos from big stars here, and expect nothing less than a stellar send-off for what has been a neat one hit wonder show! (Spring)
BEING HUMAN- The episode count for the new season of Being Human is reduced slightly for 2013, which seems to indicate the Brit BBC3 drama is moving towards its end. Whatever happens, we've got the dark prophecy that 'He Will Rise' to contend with, and an all new trio of fantasy heroes hell-bent on protecting humanity from whatever hellish threats come their way. DEREK- Ricky Gervais is bringing his other hit shows Life's Too Short, An Idiot Abroad and The Ricky Gervais Show to focus on his first full season of Derek. That will probably mean we get a brilliant run of comedy and emotional genius that will hopefully echo the positive sentiments surrounding the recent pilot episode. Bring on more Derek! (Spring)
SINBAD- Sky1's primetime fantasy drama is off to a rollocking start so far on Sundays, so there's a good chance that the channel will pick it up again for a second season to air next year. If so, expect more exciting high seas adventures with the Arabian legendary figure of myth and legend, with more twists and turns of the legends adapted into a thrilling new format! (Summer)
THE NEWSROOM- This stunning new US drama has already been commissioned for a second run of ten episodes after barely a couple of the first series' episodes have launched over in the States. Rightly so, to be honest- this is more fresh than the grand majority of duff shows America hands us, and thus it'll be great to see more of the Newsroom later in 2013. (Summer, Autumn)
MERLIN- It hasn't been confirmed yet whether Merlin will return for a sixth season, but I've included it here as the show is likely to continue in some form in 2013.  Be it through extensive details or even the release of the first in the planned movie trilogy or indeed with a final series to see the show off before the films. Either way, Merlin will return, and I can't wait to see where he goes next. (Autumn)
SHERLOCK- So...how did Sherlock survive The Reicenbach Fall? That's exactly what we're going to find out as Series Three opens with a bang, a new enemy emerges and we get three more sublime cases from the consistent writing trio of the Moff, Mark Gatiss and Stephen Thompson. Get ready for nothing less than a televisionary masterpiece once more...(Autumn)
ELEMENTARY- Meanwhile, if it performs well in its first season, then another incarnation of Sherlock Holmes could return for a second run later in 2013. Quite whether this will match the appetites for Sherlock is up to major doubt, but there could still be some more fun to be had here all the same. (Autumn)
ARROW- Again, Arrow's initial margin of success this Autumn will have an impact on whether it returns in 2013. Given the connection of superhero (in name alone) to Smallville, though, don't be surprised if Arrow performs and we see it again next year. (Autumn)
