Alex Hutchinson talks how fan reactions are affecting future titles!
There's still a few months until Assassin's Creed III lands on consoles, but that's clearly not stopping developers Ubisoft Montreal chatting to the press about the process of creating its engine, its new features and its storyline. The project's creative director Alex Hutchinson recently spoke to Eurogamer about his feelings on what could be the game's ending, given how the climax of Mass Effect 3 was responded to by some fans and how BioWare responsed to the reactions. Hutchinson had this to say on the matter: "You don't have a responsibility to deliver what people want all the time. If you can give a true ending, and a consistent ending that doesn't diverge from the rest of the game, then you just need to do your best. There is some nervousness about the ending in context, but the beauty for us is that Connor's story has a beginning, a middle and an end. That helps us out." Could this mean, then, that in future annual franchise instalments we definitely won't be playing as this new Assassin? To be fair, ACII's story was relatively self-contained for Ezio, yet he returned for two further spin-off entries, so perhaps there's more to come than is initially being teased. Perhaps not...either way, wise words from Hutchinson on how gamer entitlement isn't necessarily as high as some fans seem to now think. Assassin's Creed III ships on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 31st, with a Q4 2012 release window still given for the PC and Nintendo WiiU versions.
