X-Men's finest star returns for an adaptation of one of gaming's best loved franchises...Michael Fassbender has been chosen to lead Ubisoft's upcoming film adaptation of the Assassin's Creed series, Variety has confirmed today. Last year saw the announcement of a movie version of the science-fiction video game franchise amongst other Ubi projects like Splinter Cell (and possibly Watch Dogs), but there had been no reveals about the project as a whole since then...until today. Now, it seems that X-Men: First Class and Prometheus' greatest star will play the unnamed protagonist of the first flick instalment. We don't know yet whether it will be Altair, Ezio, Connor or a new Assassin who Fassbender will portray, though the latter seems likely as it would be easier to branch out into new, unpredictable territory both for the actor and the franchise if so. Expect definitive details from Ubisoft on the Assassin's Creed movie in the next few months, and if all goes well for production, don't be surprised if we see the first entry arrive in cinemas in 2014.
