ComicCon: Will The Hobbit Become Three Films?

It appears that the Unexpected Journey may take another unexpected turn!
There's no doubting that a good majority of the mainstream and indie film audiences are eagerly anticipating the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey later this year, what with it being Peter Jackson's big return to the Lord Of The Rings film universe. Of course, that's with good reason, yet Jackson has pulled perhaps an even more thrilling cat out of the bag at Warner Brothers' ComicCon panel- a decision is being considered about the possibility of splitting the second half of the novel into two films! This would mean that The Hobbit is in fact set to be adapted into three feature-length movie instalments rather than two, something that I think it's safe to say no-one was anticipating. The Hobbit is a much shorter book than The Lord Of The Rings, but there are far more Appendices and open gaps of chronology for Peter Jackson to fill here than in his other trilogy, so I put faith in him to do what's right for this sublime, iconic piece of classic literature. The first entry in the new prequel series is most likely in a near-complete form, but expect a definitive confirmation on whether a third film will be made or whether there will simply be DVD and Blu-Ray extended cuts once again. Either way, prepare for a heckuva lot of excitement starting this Winter...The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives in theatres everywhere on December 14th, and The Hobbit: There And Back Again is set for release on December 13th, 2013.
