It's time. We've waited four years since The Dark Knight debuted in cinemas for more action from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale's Batman trilogy, and now we've finally reached the movie series' epic finale, The Dark Knight Rises. This will be On-Screen's Batman Week, so watch out for a whole load of exciting features and articles about the Caped Crusader in days to come. Firstly, though, let's look at what else is coming our way this week...
AT THE MOVIES- On top of everyone's favourite DC hero making his return to the big screen for a new movie epic this week, he'll also be back at UK cinemas in reruns of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you missed out on either of those two cinematic greats or need a chance to catch up on the Bat lore, there really is no better time at a bargain price! Meanwhile, Ice Age 4 is still out at cinemas, as is The Amazing Spider-Man, the latter a particularly great way to get some more superhero action before you-know-what releases.
ON THE SHELVES- We Bought A Zoo, a neat family drama starring Brad Pitt and Scarlett Johnasson, is on its way to DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow. Reviews were fairly positive during its time in cinemas, so it's probably worth a watch if you're a fan of the stars or indeed the lighthearted genre.
GAME ON- Well, it's...still a slum for the industry. Seriously, the Summer is always a stupidly quiet time for video gaming, and this year's 'warm' season is no different in that respect. There's a Dark Knight Rises Gameloft tie-in for iOS and Android coming out with the film on Friday, but that's literally it for the week. Sheesh.
SWITCH ON THE TELLY- The Ricky Gervais Show is putting its focus on war and its consequences this week, with probable hilarious consequences in terms of Karl Pilkington's thoughts, while Sinbad continues with more epic adventures on the high seas.
THE NEWSROOM- I really would advise every Sky owner to catch up on this sublime fictitious journalism show, the likes of which haven't been seen in US drama for some time now. The second episode of The Newsroom looks to be every bit as groundbreaking as the season opener, and I cannot wait to see how the series starts to develop! (Tuesday 17th)
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES- And of course, the epic finale to the Batman modern film trilogy is here. Let battle commence, as the Dark Knight is forced back into action when Bane and Catwoman form a fragile alliance capable of resurrecting the League Of Shadows and destroying Gotham City. Can Bruce Wayne possibly make it out of his most physically demanding challenge ever alive, or does his legend end here...? Only four days until we find out! (Friday 20th)
ON THE BLOG- We'll be doing our Bat week features, rating the second episode of Sinbad and the premiere episode of The Newsroom, as well as more exciting games news and features and the remaining backlash of news fresh from ComicCon. Stay tuned...
AND NEXT WEEK...The Newsroom heads into dangerous and controversial territory, Sinbad travels to pastures anew and Now! That's What I Call Music 82 releases in a quiet but interesting week of entertainment.
