George Lucas: The Star Wars Show Is Coming

Star Wars fans buzzed with excitement when George Lucas announced that a live-action television show based on the space opera frachise was in the works, but since the announcement of the programme a few years back we've heard very little on the subject from 20th Century Fox or indeed Lucas himself. However, speaking on US cable network Attack of the Show, George gave us an update on the progress of the series so far: "We have 50 hours [of scripts], we're just waiting to figure out a different way of making movies, so that it's economically feasable to shoot the show. We're continuing to work towards that, and we will get there at some point, but it's a very difficult process." In other words, don't expect another full helping of Star Wars anytime soon, other than the annual 3D conversions of the saga starting in 2012, as Lucas currently describes the show as "sitting on the shelf". On the plus side, the famed writer did talk for a moment about how the plot of the series- set to take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope- will integrate with the main characters of the saga: "The Emperor and Darth Vader are heard about- people talk about them- but you never see them because it doesn't take place where they actually are." When he first announced the development of the live-action production, Lucas stated that minor characters like C-3PO, Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian were likely to take larger roles as we don't know what happened to them in the rise of the Galactic Empire, so this might explain why the main antagonists of the original trilogy will be heard about rather than seen- although that would make a great season finale...
