The CW have this week released an extended plot synopsis for the third season of their cult superhero drama Arrow. Picking up where the Season Two finale - "Unthinkable" - left off, the new run of superheroic escapades will feature the return of John Barrowman as a regular cast member (he'll reprise his role as none other than the resurrected Malcolm Merlyn), but at the cost of Caity Lotz's contribution to the show as Sara Lance reverting to a recurring guest capacity (the character chose to return to the League of Assassins last time we saw her).
Here's the synopsis in all of its tantalising glory: "In the aftermath of [his] victory, Season Three opens with The Arrow now a hero to the citizens of Starling. Crime is down, people feel safer, and Captain Lance even calls off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Basking in his success, Oliver believes he can finally have a private life and asks Felicity out on a date. But the second Oliver takes his eye off the ball, a deadly villain reappears in Starling, forcing Oliver to realize that he can never be Oliver Queen - not as long as the city needs The Arrow." The key points to take away from that précis seem to be that Captain Lance (who's clearly redeemed himself enough to rise up his force's ranks) has eased the pressure placed on the SCPD, Oliver is attempting to form a romantic relationship with Felicity (cue a thousand new memes and the like) and a "deadly villain" (Merlyn, or the recently-revived Count Vertigo?) is back in town. Let the speculation commence!
Arrow returns with its action-packed third season this October 8th on The CW (and this Autumn on Sky1).
