20th Century Fox have today launched the theatrical trailer for their upcoming thriller film Gone Girl. Adapted from the narrative of Gillian Flynn's critically acclaimed novel of the same name, the movie's narrative centres on a couple - Nick Dunne and Amy Dunne - whose relationship threatens to be torn apart when Amy mysteriously disappears and dark secrets begin to emerge involving both parties.
In the hands of any other actors, we might have had cause to be concerned about the challenging portrayals of these two layered character constructs, yet with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (and Argo)'s Ben Affleck and The World's End's Rosamund Pike at the helm, we can't help but be ecstatic to discover how the pair tackle their newest performances. The teaser certainly does nothing to dispel our enthusiasm, hinting at key plot threads yet playing most of its cards close to its chest (as is the right of any great initial trailer such as this) in its representation of its source material's overall storyline. Of course, having How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris aboard doesn't hurt its chances, either! Stay tuned to On-Screen in the months ahead as more trailers and details are unleashed in the run-up to Gone Girl's première.
Gone Girl takes its first hostage in cinemas worldwide this October 3rd.
