Marvel Studios have just announced the official release date of a third Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film coming to cinemas in four years' time. The majority of the motion pictures which will comprise Phase Three of the best-selling Avengers franchise of blockbusters (the release dates for many of which were announced last week) have yet to be named, but it seems all but guaranteed that the aforementioned 2018 flick will be amongst them.
Where and when will announcements of their titles and protagonists arrive? The studio's impending San Diego Comic-Con panel (coming this Saturday) is as safe a bet as any, particularly as DC Entertainment are suspected to announce that half a dozen new films set in the same narrative continuity as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will land in cinemas shortly after the latter film's worldwide release in May 2016. That Sony have played their hand by revealing official release windows for both Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 today is only going to place more pressure on Marvel Studios to deliver, but somehow, we sincerely doubt that they're especially worried, what with the unparalleled support of their increasingly extensive fandom.
A new untitled Marvel Studios motion picture will be released in cinemas worldwide on May 4th, 2018 (and accompanied by two other MCU films that year on July 6th, 2018 and November 2nd, 2018).
