TVLine have today announced a new guest star set to feature in a recurring capacity in the third season of The CW's cult superhero drama Arrow. Picking up where Season Two left off, the upcoming series will reportedly feature more crossovers with the show's recently-commissioned spin-off The Flash whilst introducing a plethora of new superheroes at the same time.
Indeed, the latter aspect of Season Three's premise and structure has become increasingly apparent today with news of Brandon Routh's appointment to the role of classic DC protagonist the Atom. Despite having appeared in a range of different motion pictures such as Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Crooked Arrows, it's virtually impossible to deny that Routh is best known by the cult community for his portrayal of Clark Kent (aka Superman) in Warner Bros.' attempted continuation of the Christopher Reeve Superman film franchise, Superman Returns, back in 2006, even if the recollection gives rise to bitter memories from fans of the titular Man of Steel.
Just who is the Atom, though? Like many of DC's iconic superhero constructs, the character's mantle has been taken on by a variety of different aspiring human beings including Al Pratt, Ray Palmer and Adam Cray, the latter of whom's incarnation was affiliated with the Suicide Squad (who themselves were recently introduced in the final episodes of Arrow's second season, though it remains to be seen whether these comic-book-established connections are upheld on-screen), and he has been involved with the Justice League of America on more than one occasion, so make of that what you will. TVLine also claim that Routh is playing Palmer, "an unparalleled scientist and inventor [who] will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and [...] Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated." Keep it On-Screen in the days ahead as we learn more regarding the structure, guest stars and storylines of Arrow Season Three!
Arrow returns for a third series of death-defying antics in Starling City on The CW this October 8th and on Sky1 this Autumn.
