Sony Pictures have today announced the release schedule for their upcoming superhero blockbusters Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Whereas the latter piece will presumably act as a direct continuation of the multi-faceted narrative which was first established in the 2011 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man and incorporated three new antagonists earlier this year in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the former is an entirely different proposition altogether, taking the form of a spin-off that purportedly centres on six iconic villains from Spider-Man comic-book lore (each of whom were hinted at in the credits of this April's divisive instalment).
By no means did the confirmed production of these two motion pictures appear particularly probable until today, however. Why, just last week, Roberto Orci confirmed that he was no longer on screenwriting duties for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and that Sony's plans for the franchise's immediate future were anything but concrete. Rumours have naturally circulated for months to the extent that if nothing else, it's relieving to gain a sense of closure by knowing that Sinister Six will 'grace' our screens in two years' time (battling Avatar 2 in the process, so good luck to it!) and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will do the same two further years down the line (so much for the annualized franchise, eh?), although those who are sticking with the series have their fair share of work to do between now and then if they're hoping for higher-than-lukewarm future reviews.
Sinister Six will stage its first heist in cinemas worldwide on November 11th, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will swing onto the big-screen in 2018.
