Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have today revealed the first promotional poster for their upcoming fantasy movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Directed by Peter Jackson and starring the likes of Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, the long-awaited conclusion to the studio's three-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic The Lord of the Rings prequel novel will depict Smaug's attack on Laketown and the subsequent outbreak of a war which will ultimately decide the imminent fate of Middle-Earth as its residents know it.
As any reader with eyes will probably have noticed, the spectacular San Diego Comic-Con concept art (left) pays homage to the former set-piece in its bombastic rendition of an enraged Smaug (voiced here by Benedict Cumberbatch) descending towards Baird (Luke Evans) whilst leaving a storm of fire in his wake. If this is even slightly indicative of the scale of Battle's action and drama, then we should be in for a massive treat this Winter. If not, well, the trolls of the internet are always lying in wait to add further fuel to their increasingly faint fires.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes flying out of the frying pan and into the fire this December 12th in UK cinemas nationwide.
