The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Marketing Details Announced

Photo: Thank you all for your responses to my posting about Lorri and Damien’s book. Of course, many of you asked about the Hobbit Trailer. So, yes - there will be a Hobbit Trailer. But like the previous two years, it’s not going to be released until around Oct. The complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we’re all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet.

However … yesterday I finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros. So no doubt this Teaser Trailer will be making it’s way into the world sometime soon…

Cheers,

Bilbo Baggins' unexpected journey reaches its heartbreaking climax.
Director Peter Jackson has today announced the first details on the structure of the marketing campaign for Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming fantasy movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Starring Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage and Ian McKellen, the sequel to the hit The Lord of the Rings prequel films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will resume its franchise's narrative from directly where the latter entry left off, as Smaug lays siege to Laketown and Sauron's return to power in Dol Guldur seems all but inevitable.

"So, yes - there will be a Hobbit trailer," Jackson confirmed yesterday in a Facebook post responding to queries regarding Battle's marketing schedule, "But like the previous two years, it's not going to be released until around Oct. The complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we're all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet." Having just consulted the evidence over on YouTube, we can attest (roughly) to the executive producer and writer's claims - An Unexpected Journey's theatrical trailer launched on September 19th, 2012, with Desolation's main video preview following suit on October 3rd, 2013, so even if the news of a rough release window for Battle's theatrical trail isn't so much tantalising as infuriating for fans of Jackson's work, it at least shouldn't come as too heavy a shock.

Better yet, there will at least be ample opportunity for those eager to witness the final instalment of the Hobbit trilogy to get a glimpse of what's to come. As his latest official post progressed, the New Zealand helmer went on to reveal that "yesterday [July 3rd], [he] finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros.", predicting that the teaser in question would be with us sooner rather than later. Den of Geek and other relatively reliable sources have tipped Sunday, July 20th as a likely candidate for the release date of the trailer. Stay tuned to On-Screen in the coming days to discover all of the latest details on Battle's production, marketing and release schedule.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will march to war in cinemas worldwide this December 12th.
